1. INTRODUCTION

Hello friends i am Dy SP Shahid Eqwal BPSC 60-62 Batch and BPSC 63rd Batch qualified candidate. I secured Rank 39 in BPSC 63rd Batch. I strongly feel that education must be free and fair for everybody and reach beyond social barriers. The most basic idea about creating this website is to disseminate my assumptions for free education. In this article i am going to discuss some points you should follow to qualify bpsc pre exam. If we follow the trends of bpsc exam then one thing is very clear. The number of aspirants appearing in bpsc exam is consistently on the rise whereas, the number of vacancies is almost static. This trend is responsible to make this exam highly competitive in recent years.

2. NATURE OF BPSC PRE EXAM

BPSC pre exam is the first stage of 3 tier bpsc examination system. A candidate is supposed to appear in only one paper to qualify bpsc pre exam. This paper is know as general studies paper and consists of 150 multiple choice questions. Here it is pertinent to mention that every question contains five options. Out of five options a candidate is required to choose one correct option and fill the same in OMR sheet. The total time alloted to solve 150 questions is 2 hours only. BPSC pre exam is only qualifying in nature, hence marks attained by a candidate is not used for final merit list preparation.


3. BPSC PRE CUT OFF MARKS TREND

In this paragraph let's see cut off marks trend of bpsc pre exam year on year basis. At the outset it is pertinent to mention that cut off marks is not fixed and depends on many criterion. These criterion can be enumerated below.

  • Number of vacancy to the filled up.
  • Number of candidates applied.

Every time bpsc deletes some questions before publishing bpsc pre results. Such questions varies in the range of 5 to 8. Above discussion clearly indicates that you must score above 100 plus marks in pre exam to safely qualify it. To score 100 plus marks you must attempt at least 105 questions correctly considering trend of question deletion as well as option change by bpsc in final answer key.

4.1 UNDERSTANDING SYLLABUS

Before you start your preparation for bpsc exam, just go through bpsc pre exam syllabus meticulously. Reading anything and everything is not going to help you out qualifying bpsc pre exam. Strictly follow syllabus and avoid reading unnecessary topics.


4.2 REFER PREVIOUS FIVE YEARS PRE QUESTIONS

Buy previous year question booklet for bpsc pre exam and understand question pattern. You can otherwise download question paper from internet also. Previous year question paper gives you an idea about nature and difficulty level of question being asked. If you have an idea of question pattern then reading books is going to be interesting for you. This will enable you to find out important topics out the books.


4.3 READING NCERT BOOKS

You must follow ncert books without any excuse. Strong foundation is needed to qualify bpsc exam and ncert books help you to build strong foundation. Just buy and read these books underlining important facts. You are not required to prepare notes out of it. Just treat underlined facts as your notes and revise the same again and again.

4.4 GIVE IMPORTANCE TO MATHEMATICS

10 question is being asked in bpsc pre exam from mathematics section. Most of the candidates don't bother for mathematics and leave this topic unprepared. Avoid doing this mistake. Mathematics is one of the easiest section in bpsc pre exam. Putting even little effort will enable you to score 10 out of 10 marks. Give proper weightage to mathematics during your preparation journey. If you look at the previous year question then you reach to the conclusion that only certain topics of mathematics are important for bpsc pre exam. These topics can be enumerated below.

  • Number system
  • Percentage
  • Proportion
  • Profit and loss
  • Time and distance
  • Simple and compound interest

4.5 FOCUS ON GENERAL SCIENCE

20 questions are being asked in bpsc pre exam from general science section. Give due respect to science syllabus and don't leave this topic unattended. Easy to moderate questions are being asked from science section. Buy Lucent general science book only and choose important chapter out of it. You must target to score at least 15 out of 20 marks question. Your little effort in science will help you to qualify pre exam safely.

4.6 DON'T USE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM FOR PREPARATION


Here i am discussing about Facebook groups associated with bpsc exam preparations like bpsc platform, bpsc forum, bpsc portal etc. Don't use these groups for study purpose. You can subscribe these groups only to get some exam related information. Don't waste time commenting answers on question being shared on these pages. Apart from Facebook groups, you should also abstain joining too many telegram channel/WhatsApp groups. Devoting time on books is 100 times better than using social platforms for preparation.


4.7 AVOID YOUTUBE

Permission is granted to use YouTube for your preparation but only in certain cases. You can take help of YouTube for certain topics which, you are unable to understand from regular books. Don't take help of YouTube for regular topics which are readily available in books. Excess use of YouTube is only going to create divergence in your preparation approach. You can also take help of YouTube for certain notes preparation. Always keep in mind that YouTube is not a source of authentic information.


4.8 FOCUS ON CURRENT AFFAIRS

30 to 35 questions are being asked in bpsc pre exam from current events of national and international importance. Don't (R) don't follow multiple sources for current affairs preparation. Buy only one magazine and read it every month meticulously. You can buy and read Civil services chronicle/Dristi. Don't watch YouTube videos for current affairs. Refer last 6 months magazine before exam date for current affairs preparation.


4.9 NEVER PREPARE FROM SOFT COPY OF STUDY MATERIALS

Reading with soft copy of study material is latest trend among aspirants. Don't rely on collecting notes in soft copies. Revision is key to success in your preparation journey and that revision become impossible when you study with soft copy. Even if you save these soft copies for revision purpose then also such revision is time consuming process. It is better to buy standard books and underline important facts in the book for the purpose of quick revision.


4.10 REVISION

I again reiterate that "Revision is key to success". Most of the candidates complain that they forget soon after reading the facts. This is very common and everyone face these situation in initial stage of preparation. The only solution to overcome this problem is revision. Revise as much as you can. Read one book at least 10 times for better understanding and mugging up facts. Don't buy and collect hosts of book on same subject/topic. It is better to read one book 10 times than reading 10 books one time.

With rising competition for government job and dwindling employment opportunities, qualifying bpsc pre exam is also getting tough day by day.
