1. INTRODUCTION

Planning of study time and time management for study is most important aspect of Civil Services Exam preparation. 2. AVAILABILITY OF TIME PER DAY

Civil services examinations like UPSC and State PCS is prepared by many aspirants. Some of these aspirant prepare for civil services examination as a regular student. Even among regular students some aspirants take coaching classes and some other aspirants depend on self study. Apart from regular students hosts of working people also prepare for civil services examination. Hence availability of time for each category of  aspirant is different. A regular student will be able to manage 10 hours per day for self study. Contrary to that a working aspirant wont be able to manage even 6 hour per day comfortably for self study. So lets assume that a candidate is free for self study 8 hours per day.

3. SUBJECT TO BE STUDIED

A candidate preparing for UPSC Civil Services and State PCS is supposed to study many subjects  like History, Geography, Polity, Sociology, Science, Economics, Environmental Science, Current Affairs as a part of general studies and also one Optional subject chosen by the candidate. Many sources are available to study these subjects like text books, Wikipedia, YouTube, educational websites, newspaper, magazines, educational application etc.

4. TIME MANAGEMENT

In paragraph 2 above i have assumed that an aspirant have 8 hour of free time per day for self study. Now i will suggest you how to distribute available time duration of 8 hours for better result and understanding. First of all divide 8 hours in four part of 2 hours each.

Time management

I have taken into account of 2 hours time duration for each subject which you study per day. It means you will be able to cover only 4 subjects per day. Now lets see in next paragraph about, how to study these 4 subjects in a day.

5. HOW TO STUDY

Once you start reading any particular subject then just stick to that subject at least for 2 hours. Don't change subject in every 15 minutes or in every 30 minutes. Let's understand this with an appropriate example. Suppose you started studying Indian History, then read that for two hours continuously. After that 2 hours, you can jump to other subject. Here i would like to emphasize on one more important point. As you all must be aware that Indian history can be broadly divided into three parts i.e Ancient, Medieval and Modern. The point is that if you started reading Ancient Indian History from today itself, then read it daily for 2 hours and complete the same in a sequence. Once you complete Ancient Indian History then only you should jump to Medieval or Modern Indian History. Don't make a habit of reading first day modern Indian history, second day medieval Indian history third day ancient Indian history and so on.  In the same way if u started reading Indian Geography then complete it first before jumping to world geography.

6. HOW TO DIVIDE STUDY TIME

I have taken into account 8 hours per day for self study. Now let's divide this 8 hours for studying general studies, optional subject and newspaper, current affairs etc. You must reserve 4 hours study time for general studies. You can choose History and Geography at a time. After completion of History and Geography you can choose two other subjects like Polity and Economics. In the same way you should complete your general studies preparation. Now you have been left with 4 hours time. In that four hour, give 2 hours for your optional subject and rest 2 hours for newspaper, current affairs, magazines etc.

7. DO'S

  • Read a particular subject at least for 2 hours  continuously.
  • Divide 8  hours in four time slot and 10 hours in 5 time slot and so on.
  • Read optional paper along with GS Paper.
  • If you started reading one book, then read that book daily till completion.
  • When u read any book for the first time, underline important facts.
  • Revise your book at regular intervals.
  • Take break of 10 min in between 2 hour study slot of a particular subject.

8. DON'T

  • Dont read 3, 4 or more subjects at a time.
  • Don't read any subject continuously for more than 2 hour.
  • Don't waste unnecessary time on social media.
  • Don't be too much dependent on YouTube.

9. CONCLUSION
