ROLE OF COACHING FOR BPSC EXAM|COACHING FOR BPSC EXAM

1. INTRODUCTION

Hello friends i am Dy SP Shahid Eqwal BPSC 60-62 Batch and BPSC 63 Batch qualified candidate. I secured Rank 39 in BPSC 63 Batch. In this article we are going go discuss very important issue raised by many BPSC aspirants. Most of the time i come across a very common question from aspirants in respect of best coaching ideas for BPSC Preparation. Here we will examine the role of coaching for qualifying BPSC Exam.

2. ROLE OF MENTOR VS ROLE OF TEACHER

First of all let's understand the common meaning of these two terms one by one.

MENTOR
"An experienced person who advises and helps somebody with less experience over a period of time". This is the literal meaning of mentor as per google. Now let's elaborate this term. The role of mentor is only to advise and guide you regularly to achieve your task/goal over a period of time.

Further if we elaborate the definition of mentor, then we reach to the conclusion that mentor is an experienced person having practical knowledge of a particular topic.

TEACHER
"A person whose job is to teach, especially in a school or college". This is the literal meaning of teacher as per google. If we elaborate this term, then we reach to the conclusion that role of a teacher is only limited upto college i.e regular university studies. Here it is pertinent to mention that minimum educational qualification required to appear in BPSC Exam is graduation. Once you qualify graduation degree and become eligible to appear in BPSC exam, then the role of teacher vanishes and the role of mentor starts.

3. ROLE OF COACHING

BPSC Exams are conducted in three stages i.e Pre, Mains and Interview. These three stages are integrated with each other and sole preparation of a particular stage is useless. In next paragraph we will discuss syllabus wise, the role of coaching for preparation of BPSC exam. The whole syllabus of BPSC exam can be broadly divided into two parts. These are;

(i)  General Studies.
(ii) Optional Paper.

3.1 ROLE OF COACHING FOR GENERAL STUDIES

Preparation of general studies is equally important for BPSC Pre and for BPSC Mains exam. I have a firm opinion that coaching is not required for preparation of general studies at pre level and at mains level. You must check the level of general studies questions paper at pre level and at mains level. If u minutely observe the question paper of BPSC pre exam, then you reach to the following conclusions.

• Fact based questions
• Least analysis required
• Only qualifying in nature

A total number of 150 multiple choice questions from general studies is being asked in BPSC pre exam and most of these questions are fact based and requires least analysis by aspirant. Apart from that an aspirant is supposed to qualify pre exam and pre marks are not used for preparation of final merit list. An aspirant can easily qualify pre exam without taking help of any coaching subject to careful study of NCERT books and other suggested reference books.

BPSC Mains exam is descriptive in nature and consists of two general studies paper viz; Paper 1 and Paper 2. If you observe the syllabus of BPSC Mains exam, then you reach to the conclusion that selective study is to be done. The General Studies syllabus is very compact and limited. Preparation of notes and consistent revision of the same is good enough to score good marks in general studies without taking help of any coaching. It is reiterate to mention that you must enrol yourself to any good coaching centre for General studies mains test series just after qualifying Pre exam.

3.2 ROLE OF COACHING FOR OPTIONAL

Apart from two paper of general studies a candidate is supposed to choose one paper as optional subject from the list provided by BPSC. In my opinion if your optional paper is from arts subject, then you can prepare for that without any coaching. If it is from science background, then you may have need to join some coaching. It is advisable to understand the syllabus of your optional subject minutely and prepare self hand written notes strictly based on that syllabus.

4. ROLE OF COACHING FOR INTERVIEW

BPSC Mains qualified candidates are called for interview cum personality test. It is pertinent to mention that interview is not a test of your knowledge but test of your personality. You must know about yourself for better performance in interview. Just work upon your strength, weakness, likes, dislikes, hobbies and extra curricular activities. You must present yourself in front of mock interview board at least twice before final interview. That will Strengthen your confidence and presentation in front of Board. These mock interviews are free of cost subject to your qualification in BPSC Mains exam.

  1. Biased writting !!

One should not be biased towards preparation. If one need coaching in initial years of preparation...He/She should join coaching.

Coaching can reduce the time (attempt) to get success in exam. There is no point in stretching ones attempt to get into services after losing 3-4 precious years or crossing 25-30 yrs of age.

I wonder why passed candidates failed to look back his/her starting years when he/she has struggled to know things comprehensively.

Yes....Coaching requires but only for one year of initial periods. It will keep you on track of preparation along with guidance.....But, get admission only after enquiring about the best claases/faculties among all. Never be in hurry to pay money . Attend 5-7 Demo Class.

Remember, No coaching has all the best faculties anywhere....If there are good faculties for your weak areas of study then only join it. Also talk with old students or students of other batches (presently studying) to get knowledge about faculties of the institute.

    Thanks !
